Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova joked about Kiev’s plans to “actively strengthen” the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Earlier, the activation of work under the Wall project was announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. In 2019, UAH 400 million ($ 14 million) was already pledged into the country’s budget for the implementation of the Wall.
Zakharova to the plans of Kiev reacted with irony.
“Have you decided in three weeks to have time to prevent the mass exodus of the electorate?” After all, the people at some point will understand everything, start packing up, and here they will release a new press release to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine: “Hulk, there is no place for Peremoga, the Wall project is completed,” she joked.
The diplomat also asked if Nadezhda Savchenko managed to exercise her electoral rights in the election of the head of state.
“And for a long time PACE has not been heard about this,” Zakharova noted.
In 2015, the Ukrainian government approved an action plan for the implementation of the Wall project, which provided for the construction of powerful defensive structures on the border with Russia.
The project was designed for four years and should have cost the budget 4.1 billion hryvnia (about 150 million dollars). However, the financing of work for 2015 and 2016 was subsequently cut more than doubled. Ukrainian law enforcement officers are investigating a criminal case into embezzlement of state funds allocated for the project.
