NEW YORK, November 7. /TASS/. As polling stations started to close in the United States, Republican candidates are projected to win at least 15 seats in the US House of Representatives so far, Democrates have 19, according to a CNN forecast based on exit polls and early vote count.

Polling stations have closed in Kentucky and Indiana at 2:00 Moscow time. An hour later, the vote was over in Georgia, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina and West Virginia. No official information about the outcome of elections to the lower chamber of the US parliament is available so far.

The main question to be answered during the current midterm elections is whether the Republicans will cede their control over the House of Representatives to the Democrats. Prior to the elections, the Republicans held 236 seats, and Democrats – 193, and six seats remained vacant. Democrats require at least 218 mandates to get the majority, and now need at least 23 mandates to achieve that goal.

The midterm elections in the US are taking place on November 6. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 out of the 100 seats in the Senate are up for grabs. In addition, 36 states and three territories are holding gubernatorial elections. Besides, 6,073 state and local officials are also being elected.
