GENEVA, February 27. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershining and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza have confirmed at their meeting in Geneva the unacceptability of any attempts to interfere into Venezuela’s internal affairs, and said that US actions toward Venezuela constitute a violation of international law.

Vershinin told TASS his meeting with Arreaza was “detailed and interesting.” Arreaza arrived from New York where the UN Security Council held a session on Venezuela. In Geneve the Venezuelan foreign minister took part in the session of the UN Human Rights Council.

“We mostly talks about the latest developments in Venezuela which were discussed in detail at the UN Security Council session yesterday,” Vershinin said. “We confirmed unacceptability of any attempts to interfere into Venezuela’s internal sovereign affairs,” he added. The sides also confirmed “the inadmissability of violating the basic principles of the UN Charter which envisage respecting sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity,” the deputy foreign minister noted.

Russia and Venezuela agree that “the actions of the US and their supporters in violation of all norms of international law, their active calls for changing power in Venezuela, including their appeal to the country’s military, cannot be deemed appropriate in the modern international conditions,” Vershinin said. “This should never become the norm of international communication. On the contrary, this should be condemned,” he concluded.
