MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held a meeting with US boxer Floyd Mayweather’s team to discuss a possible bout with Russia’s UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, ESPN reported.

American boxer Mayweather announced earlier that he was ready to square off with Nurmagomedov for a bout, but under the boxing regulations. Nurmagomedov said on Thursday he was eyeing two fights with Mayweather with one under the boxing rules and the other under the MMA regulations.

“I had a meeting yesterday in Los Angeles about this,” White told ESPN. “I don’t want to say anything that’s going to make it sound like ‘wow this could happen’ but we had talks yesterday.”

“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” UFC chief said. “I don’t think the fight would happen in the UFC but they didn’t say no.”

White made it clear earlier in the week that if the deal on the bout is reached Mayweather would have to fight Nurmagomedov strictly under the UFC regulations.

“We went over there, we boxed him and if he wants to do it again, he’s gotta come fight in the UFC,” White told ESPN. “I don’t think it’s very realistic at all but I didn’t the boxing match was either and it happened so we’ll see.”

In August 2017, the 41-year-old American boxer, who goes by the alias ‘Money’ or ‘Pretty Boy,’ faced off Ireland’s former UFC Champion Conor McGregor and edged him out with the technical knockout in the 10th round. That fight was held under the boxing regulations.

Last year’s Mayweather-McGregor clash set the record of being the second highest pay-per-view fight of all time. The highest pay-per-view fight at the moment is Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquaio bout, which was held in May 2015.

“There’s a reason why Floyd Mayweather wants to fight my guys,” White said. “Because there’s big money there for him… If Floyd wants to come over here, he said he’s been wrestling and doing this and that, if he wants to come over and fight in the UFC, he’s more than welcome.”

Nurmagomedov stated on Thursday that he wanted to try himself in boxing saying “The first match in the ring and the second in the cage, then this would be real. I want to test myself in boxing once, that’s fair.”

UFC President White said that after the talks with Mayweather’s representatives he wanted to meet with Nurmagomedov’s team as well to discuss the issue.

“Obviously if it was something that Khabib really wanted to do, we’d sit down and talk about it but I don’t like anything about it,” White said. “I haven’t talked to Khabib about it at all. His interest needs to be defending his title over here. That’s what he should be focused on.”

Mayweather maintains an unblemished record of 50 wins in all of his professional fights, including 27 wins by KOs.

UFC Champion Nurmagomedov handed Ireland’s Conor McGregor a resounding defeat during the UFC 229 tournament in Las Vegas on the night of October 6, crushing his lightweight challenger with a choke in the 4th round of the match.

The Russian fighter’s victory over McGregor last month was his 11th in the UFC tournaments career. He defeated his opponents in all of his 27 fights.

The 30-year-old Nurmagomedov, hailing from Russia’s North Caucasus Region of Dagestan, is the first Russian to win the UFC champion’s belt. On April 8, Nurmagomedov defeated his US opponent Al Iaquinta in a five-round fight for the UFC lightweight belt in New York.
