Trade turnover between Russia and Argentina to reach $1 billion this year — Putin

BUENOS AIRES, December 2. /TASS/. Trade turnover between Russia and Argentina will reach $1 billion this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said after talks with his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri.

Putin noted that in 2017 bilateral trade turnover grew to $890 million, while increasing by another 26% in the first nine months of 2018. “At the end of this year, we will reach $1 billion,” he said.

At talks, Putin and Macri discussed the importance of strengthening industrial cooperation between Russia and Argentina, as well as implementation bilateral projects. They also focused on the issue of constructing nuclear power plants in Argentina with the use of Russian technologies. Putin also shared his plans on increasing cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of transport infrastructure. In particular, the Russian Railways (RZD) company “is ready to assist in implementing a very important initiative for the Argentine economy – the construction of a 700-kilometer railroad to the Vaca Muerta deposit,” Putin said.

“We see considerable potential for boosting cooperation in the spheres of supplying fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, green energy, space exploration and many others,” the Russian leader noted.
