Ukrainian journalist Olesya Medvedeva shared her impressions of the visit to the peninsula.

She noted that in five years Russia has invested more funds in the republic than Ukraine in the previous 23 years.

“It is completely obvious that Russia is investing huge amounts of money in the Crimea: the Crimean Bridge, the Taurida highway, the Simferopol airport, kindergartens, hospitals, power stations. Everything is literally being built from scratch, ”she said.

Medvedeva also compared prices in the peninsula and in Ukraine. She dispelled the myth of more expensive Russian goods: according to her, on the peninsula “something is more expensive, but something is cheaper.” For example, in the Crimea cheaper gasoline and utilities (in particular, heating), as well as higher pensions and wages than in Ukraine.

At the same time, the blogger stated that many international and even Russian companies are not operating on the peninsula due to the sanctions.

“Is there nostalgia for Ukraine? I asked about it and, in spite of everything, about 70% is still for Russia. And in Ukraine, if there is nostalgia, then only for the one that ended in 2013 … And the point is not even in salaries, but in the fact that Ukraine with those heroes and landmarks that exist now is a foreign country for the Crimean people, ” – summed up Medvedev.
