The US will deploy the THAAD missile defense system in Romania in the summer during the technical work and modernization of the Aegis Ashore complex there, the European Command said.

This decision was made at the request of NATO.

Where else are THAAD systems?

In March, the Israeli army reported that American troops were conducting exercises in the country with the development of rapid deployment systems THAAD.

In addition, it is planned to strengthen the grouping of US missile defense in South Korea.

The United States and South Korea agreed to deploy the THAAD system in July 2016 after five months of negotiations. Formally, Washington went for it under the pretext of danger from the DPRK, despite the fact that Pyongyang refused to nuclear tests. According to the South Korean Defense Ministry, the range of THAAD does not exceed 200 kilometers.

Moscow opposes the deployment of an American missile defense system The Foreign Ministry said that anti-missiles threaten Russia and China. The same position is occupied by Beijing.

What is THAAD

THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) is designed for high-altitude over-atmospheric interception of missiles, as claimed in the United States, of short and medium range.
