The Security Service of Ukraine summoned the clergy of the Sarnensky and Rivne dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate for questioning. This was reported today in the information and education department of the UOC.
“The summons for an interrogation call to the deputy head of the investigation department of the USBU in the Rivne region Tuzu on November 30, 2018 were presented to clerics of the Dean,” the message on the UOC website said. In particular, a considerable number of priests of the Sarnensky Diocese, as well as 20 clergymen of the Rivne Diocese were summoned for interrogation to the SBU. They “received summons to be summoned for questioning as a witness, without explaining what to testify about.”
It is noted that after the adoption of a decree on the latest church events in Ukraine during the time of the Bishops’ Council on November 13, 2018, a number of provocations against the hierarchs of the UOC MP almost took place in different regions of Ukraine.
“In particular, illegal actions were carried out near the residences of the diocesan administrations and bishops of the UOC. In addition, the systematic calls of the bishops of the UOC began to talk to the Security Service of Ukraine, ”the message says.
According to the convocation of the chairman of the legal department of the UOC archpriest Alexander Bachov, these actions are aimed at pressure and forcing the bishops to participate in the unification council. The lawyer stressed that “the listed provocations are a direct violation of the constitutional rights of citizens of Ukraine and have a pronounced artificial and centralized character, and are not an impartial manifestation of the will of the people”.
