MILAN, December 6. /TASS/. Russia is in favor of continuing to reform the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and draft its charter, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday.
“We are in favor of continuing the OSCE reform,” he said at the 25th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council. “The organization needs a charter, procedures for executive bodies, regulations for election monitoring, in the human dimension, in personnel and financial matters.”
“We are confident that only the principles of mutual respect and consideration of interests can help bring the OSCE to its designed capacity, so to say, and move towards the goal set by the Astana summit, that is, to create a community of equal, comprehensive and indivisible security,” Lavrov stressed. “The key reference point of our work should be people’s interests. They, people, strengthen ties in the field of culture, science, education, sports and business despite everything, strive for a peaceful life and do not want confrontation.”
Russia’s top diplomat warned against “sacrificing citizens’ interests for the sake of geopolitical games, be it in the Mediterranean or Ukraine.”.
