VLADIVOSTOK, December 2. /TASS/. Russia’s Pacific Fleet vessels completed their business visit to Singapore on Sunday, Fleet Spokesman Capt. 2nd Rank Nikolai Voskresensky told reporters.
“Today the Pacific Fleet’s task force, consisting of the Order of Nakhimov guards missile cruiser Varyag, the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Panteleyev and the Boris Butoma large sea tanker – completed its business call to the Changi (Singapore) naval base, where it arrived on November 27,” the spokesman said.
During the visit, the task force’s command met with Singapore’s Navy commander, the naval base’s commander and the city mayor.
Singapore’s sailors visited the Admiral Panteleyev ship for an excursion, and were shown its armaments, including the Kinzhal air-launched missile system, and learnt about how torpedoes are launched against the enemy’s surface targets. They also inspected the Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter.
The center of attention onboard the Varyag missile cruiser were its Bazalt cruise missiles. These are the first sea-based supersonic missiles designed to combat powerful naval forces, including strike groups. The ship’s S-300 missile system also attracted all eyes.
The guests were able to visit the ships’ kitchen and taste the food. The Russian sailors went on bus excursions to the city’s historic places.
The Pacific Fleet ships arrived in Singapore on November 27 from Brunei, where they held joint drills with the country’s naval forces. The vessels earlier visited Japan, South Korea and China. The ships are also due to take part in the upcoming Russian-Indian Indra Navy-2018 maneuvers.
