MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Jorge Arreaza discussed in Geneva the study of Venezuelan issue in the UN Security Council (UNSC), the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

“Some aspects of bilateral cooperation regarding the study of the Venezuelan issue in the UN Security Council were discussed, as well as the discussions of human rights issues at the 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council,” the ministry noted.

Russia and the US earlier introduced draft resolutions on Venezuela to the UN Security Council. The documents contain opposite approaches to the settlement of the situation in this Latin American country and the delivery of humanitarian cargoes there. The voting on the texts is to take place on Thursday. The Russian version contains an appeal to a peaceful settlement of the crisis based on dialogue, including the mechanism developed in Montevideo.
