MOSCOW, December 30. /TASS/. Russian two-time Olympic medalist in race walking Denis Nizhegorodov told TASS on Sunday he finishes his sports career.

“Regrettably, time has come for me to say goodbye to sports. I wish I could continue my career but the age and injuries leave no possibility to demonstrate high results. Today, the national team has younger folks who are stronger than I”, he said.

“I am now working as a coach at the Olympic reserve school, training young athletes”, he added.

Nizhegorodov, 38, is the silver medalist of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the bronze medalist of the 2008 Games in Beijing. He is a holder of the world record in 50 kilometer race walk and vice champion of the world of 2011.
