SOFIA, March 4. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has arrived for a two-day official visit to Bulgaria. The first event on the PM’s agenda in Sofia will be the official meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

After the ceremony, Medvedev and Borisov will start the talks, during which they will discuss current issues of Russian-Bulgarian trade, economic, investment, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as the development of joint projects in the sphere of energy, industry, agriculture, tourism and other areas, the Russian PM’s office informed.

One of the main topics of the talks will be the prospects of prolonging the Turkish Stream gas pipeline so that it would go through Bulgaria’s territory. In the run-up to the visit, Medvedev said in an interview with the Bulgarian daily “Trud” that the Russian side would not wish a repeat of the situation with the South Stream, which is why it expects “strong guarantees” that the EU would not block gas supply via this pipeline.

Another issue on the agenda is Russia’s potential participation in the renewed construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant.

During Medvedev’s visit, the parties plan to sign several agreements on cooperation in various spheres. The Russian PM will also meet with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and other Bulgarian officials. On March 5, the prime ministers of both countries will inaugurate the Bulgarian-Russian business forum in the sphere of tourism.

After the trip to Bulgaria, the Russian Prime Minister will travel to Luxembourg for a two-day official visit.
