MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Russian members of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (PA) observation mission have not found any irregularities during the US midterm elections, which took place on November 6, Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) MP Alexey Korniyenko told TASS on Wednesday.
According to him, “there have been no irregularities at the nine polling stations (two in Washington and seven in the state of Maryland) visited by Russian OSCE PA observers.”
“We have noted high voter activity at many polling stations in Washington,” he said, adding that there had been many young and elderly people among the voters.
The Russian MP pointed out that the group had easy access to the polling stations. “The polling station employees were very cordial and answered all our questions,” he noted. “Some of them also talked in detail about the election process and voting equipment.” Korniyenko added that they were allowed to take photographs at some polling stations.
The MP added that out of all the stations they visited, just one was overcrowded. According to him, the voting process was well organized, and they received no complaints from voters.
On Tuesday, the US midterm elections took place. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 out of the 100 seats in the Senate were up for grabs. In addition, 36 states and 3 territories held gubernatorial elections. The voters also elected 6,073 state and local officials.
According to US media forecasts, the Democratic Party is likely to get the majority in the House of Representatives, while the Republican Party will keep its majority in the Senate.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump described the elections as a “tremendous success” on Twitter.
