DOHA, October 31. /TASS/. Russia’s Artur Dalaloyan won gold on Wednesday in men’s all-around event at the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, held in Qatar’s Doha between October 25 and November 3.
Following all-around event’s six disciplines (floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar) Dalaloyan raked in a total of 87.598 points.
Defending champion Xiao Ruoteng of China also earned a total of 87.598 points, but the 22-year-old Russian won the gold on execution score leaving Xiao with the silver.
Dalaloyan’s teammate Nikita Nagorny finished the disciplines with an aggregate score of 86.331 points to pack the bronze of the World Championships.
This is Russia’s first gold of the World Championships in men’s all-around event in almost 20 years. Last time a Russian gymnast won gold in this event was at the 1999 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships and it was won by Russian gymnast Nikolai Kryukov.
Dalaloyan and Krykov are now the only Russian World Champions in all-around event since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
The gymnasts of the Russian national team have already won four medals at the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships (one gold, two silver and one bronze) and are currently in the top of the medals standings.
