SOCHI, February 13. /TASS/. Russia’s small arms manufacturer Kalashnikov plans to launch the serial production of the new Bi-7-7 biathlon rifle by the end of 2019, Kalashnikov Director for Sports Projects, Three-Time Biathlon World Champion Ivan Cherezov told TASS on the sidelines of the Russian investment forum on Wednesday.
“The project has entered its final stage and technical preparations are underway for the production,” Cherezov said.
‘We will start the manufacture gradually, by the end of 2019,” he specified.
The Kalashnikov cannot deliver rifles to European countries due to the Western sanctions, he said.
“One should not forget that our facility is not just sporting production but a defense enterprise and this creates certain difficulties. Due to the restrictions, we cannot think about the European market so far. But our domestic biathlon market is large enough and there are friendly countries, which do not impose any sanctions,” Cherezov said.
The Kalashnikov Group is Russia’s largest small arms manufacturer and the basic supplier of combat small arms for the country’s armed forces controlling the production capacities for the manufacture of precision-guided weapons for army aviation.
The Russian investment forum will run in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi on February 14-15. The forum will focus on Russia’s national projects. The investment forum has been organized by Ruscongress. TASS news agency acts as the forum’s general information partner and the photo host agency.
