KALININGRAD, December 3. /TASS/. The Russian Baltic Fleet’s warships will continue accomplishing missions in the Mediterranean Sea, and also in the Indian Ocean during their voyages in distant waters, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.

“The Baltic Fleet is set for large-scale tasks, long-distance voyages of ships to the areas of the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean, and also for the participation of surface ships and vessels of the Baltic Fleet in planned combat training measures and international maneuvers,” the press office quoted Baltic Fleet Commander Vice-Admiral Alexander Nosatov as saying.

The Baltic Fleet commander was speaking before the personnel of the Baltiyskaya naval base at a solemn ceremony devoted to the beginning of the new training year in the Russian Armed Forces.

The Baltic Fleet’s efforts “will be aimed at ensuring the naval interests of the Russian Federation and sailors of the Baltic Fleet will also continue fulfilling state tasks for ensuring the trials of warships being built or repaired for the country’s Navy,” the commander said.

According to the Fleet’s press office, last year the Baltic Fleet sailors won seven prizes of the Navy’s commander-in-chief in various training categories. The prize winners included a naval group of ships protecting the water area of the Baltiyskaya naval base, an assault squadron of the Fleet’s air base, an air defense missile and radar regiment of a Baltic Fleet large air defense unit, an anti-sabotage force and also the communications ship Fyodor Golovin, the commander said.

In 2018, the Baltic Fleet’s surface ships also successfully accomplished long-distance voyage missions as part of the Navy’s operational task force in the Mediterranean Sea. The Baltic Fleet sailors made more than 10 unofficial visits and business calls at the ports of foreign states.
