NEW YORK, November 7. /TASS/. Republican candidates are projected to win at least 85 seats in the US House of Representatives so far, Democrates have 86, according to a CNN forecast based on exit polls and early vote count.

Fox News, which, unlike CNN, supports the Republican administration of US President Donald Trump, gives Republicans 82 House seats and 80 – to Democrats.

Polling stations have closed in Kentucky and Indiana at 2:00 Moscow time. An hour later, the vote was over in Georgia, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina and West Virginia. By 4:00 Moscow time, the vote was over in 16 more states, including crucial states of Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. No official information about the outcome of elections to the lower chamber of the US parliament is available so far.

The main question to be answered during the current midterm elections is whether the Republicans will cede their control over the House of Representatives to the Democrats. Prior to the elections, the Republicans held 236 seats, and Democrats – 193, and six seats remained vacant. Democrats require at least 218 mandates to get the majority, and now need at least 23 mandates to achieve that goal.

The Democratic Party’s chances of winning the majority in the House of Representatives during the current midterm elections are now at 82%, according to Fox News.

At the same time, the broadcaster estimates the Republican chances of retaining its majority in the Senate at 69%. CNN, in its turn, projects that the Democrats will not only fail in getting the Senate majority, but will also lose several seats there. According to preliminary information, Republicans have already ousted Democratic senators in Florida, Indiana, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas, but lost one seat in Mississippi.

The midterm elections in the US are taking place on November 6. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 out of the 100 seats in the Senate are up for grabs. In addition, 36 states and three territories are holding gubernatorial elections. Besides, 6,073 state and local officials are also being elected.
