MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Russia and Turkey have agreed to contribute to launching Syria’s Constitutional Committee as soon as possible, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters at a news conference following talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“While exchanging views on pressing international issues, we, of course, paid considerable attention to the situation in Syria. Let me stress that Russia and Turkey will continue effective cooperation within the Astana framework involving Iran. Now that the main terrorist forces have been vanquished, it is essential to focus on the final stabilization of the situation on the ground and accelerating the peaceful settlement process in accordance with UN Security Council 2254,” Putin said.

“In light of that, Mr. Erdogan and I agreed, in coordination with the Syrian government, the opposition and the UN, to contribute to an early start of the Constitutional Committee’s work in every possible way.”
