MADRID, December 2. /TASS/. The voting at the parliamentary elections in southern Spain’s Andalusia autonomous community began on Sunday.

The ballot stations opened at 9.00 a.m. local time and will be closed at 8 p.m. local time, and the vote counting will begin shortly after.

The frontrunner is the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, which has been in power in the region for more than three decades. The party won 47 out of 109 seats in Andalusia’s parliament in the 2015 elections. Its leader in the autonomous community is Susana Diaz, who earlier sought to become the party’s secretary general.

More than 6.5 million people are eligible to vote in Andalusia, which is home for 8.5 million. Nearly 3,800 polling stations will be opened.
