KRASNOYARSK, February 15. /TASS/. The oldest participant of the Krasnoyarsk Universiade torch relay carried the torch through the town of Shushenskoye in the Krasnoyarsk Region, the event organizers told TASS. The torchbearer, Anatoly Dorovskikh, is 83 years old.
Eleven torchbearers took part in the Shushenskoye stage of the relay, totaling 1.93 kilometers.
“It was sunny, the temperature was at minus 4 (degrees Celsius – TASS), we warmed up after the harsh frost in the north. At this stage, the oldest participant of the Universiade torch relay was carrying the torch – the 83-year-old sportsman Anatoly Dorovskikh,” the organizers informed.
The Russian Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, which has a population of over one million, was selected to host the 2019 Winter Universiade at the session of the FISU Executive Committee in Brussels in 2013. The event is scheduled for March 2-12, 2019.
The Winter Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival, which is staged every two years in a different city. The name of the international sports event is a combination of two words, which are ‘University’ and ‘Olympiad.’
It is only second to the Olympic Games. The program of the Winter Universiade currently includes six compulsory sports (eight compulsory disciplines) and up to three optional sports chosen by the host country.
The 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk offers 76 sets of medals in 11 sports competitions.
