Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, interceded for his Venezuelan counterpart, Samuel Moncade, at a meeting of the Security Council.

Before this, US Vice President Michael Pence said that Monkade should not be in the hall.

“You should go back to your president and say that his time is up,” Pence told him.

In addition, the vice-president said that he would like to talk with “a representative of the free Venezuelan government.”

After receiving the word, Nebenzya expressed his support for Moncade.

“I will not comment on the tone of this statement, but I want to say that the permanent representative of Venezuela, who is in the hall, was appointed the legitimate government of his country,” he stressed.

The Russian Permanent Representative also recalled that the powers of Monkade were confirmed by the UN General Assembly.
