The North Atlantic alliance must be ready for action in a new reality, in which Russia will deploy significant nuclear power at its European borders.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, speaking at the Munich Security Conference.
The Secretary General stressed that NATO leaves a “window” for Russia at 6 months for the restoration of the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium and Small-Range Nuclear Missiles capable of carrying a nuclear charge.
At the same time, he stressed that the Alliance should now, without waiting for the end of this period, prepare for the termination of this contract.
“Although we want to avoid an arms race, we cannot afford to be naive … We must prepare for peace without a nuclear agreement and with a large number of Russian missiles in Europe,” he stressed.
The Secretary General also noted the growth of China’s military power: “The growth of (military power) of China is also a challenge.”
