MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. Moscow greatly appreciates allied cooperation with Cuba internationally as well as the republic’s stance on sanction pressure, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said at a meeting with his Cuban counterpart Leopoldo Cintra Frias.
“(We) highly appreciate close cooperation between Russia and Cuba on the international arena. We are unanimous about key issues on the global agenda. Also, the Cuban side understands us when it comes to illegal and unscrupulous sanction pressure,” he pointed out.
Shoigu added that mutual support is particularly important under circumstances, when “cetain states make shameless attempts to change international law using their own standards.” “When a policy aimed at overthrowing unwanted governments in Venezuela, Nicaragua and other Latin American states and the Caribbean is being carried out,” the Russian defense chief emphasized.
He also said that a bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel, which took place on Moscow on 2 November, provided a powerful boost to beef up ties between the two countries. “The Cuban leader’s first foreign trip demonstrated the consistency of Havana’s foreign policy course. I want to emphasize that the implementation of the agreements reached between Russia and Cuba is our priority. I regard your visit in Russia in this context too,” Shoigu stated.
According to him, the two states constantly hold intensive and constructive political dialogue, keeping up a proactive exchange of delegations, and maintaining communication between defense ministries.
The Russian defense minister went on to say that at the meeting, cooperation issues and Russia’s expertise in the fight against terrorism in Syria would be discussed.
