MOSCOW, February 14. /TASS/. Events like the Ukrainian coup of 2014 may take place in Moldova if the Socialists win the parliamentary election, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily.

“If the Socialists win the election, the West may encourage right-wing forces to arrange Maidan-like events in Chisinau and try to impeach the president,” he said.

According to Patrushev, Washington and Brussels make no secret of their intention to ensure that Moldova’s government and parliament take their lead from the West. “It will become possible if supporters of this policy win the upcoming election and form a pro-Western coalition,” the Russian Security Council secretary added.

Patrushev pointed out that “opinion polls show President Igor Dodon’s Socialist Party, which stands for boosting relations with both Russia and the European Union, leads the election race.” “However, it doesn’t suit the West so it has been supporting right-wing forces that seek to discredit President Dodon and convince people that the socialists should be excluded from the election campaign,” he noted.

“This is what we saw in Ukraine in 2014, when a state coup took place there,” Patrushev emphasized.

“We would like the Moldovan election to be fair and impartial,” he stressed.

The parliamentary election in Moldova is scheduled to take place on February 24.
