MINSK, October 31. /TASS/. Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has come out against attempts to involve East European countries in different military and political blocs.
“If the powers that be agree to refrain from dragging East European countries into various military and political blocs and from demands these states confirm loyalty to the detriment of their loyal interests, this region will become a trans-border belt of stability and cooperation,” he said.
By virtue of its geographic location Belarus is sandwiched between two geo-political giants, he stated.
“We do not wish to find ourselves on the line of another civilizational crack, in the very center of a standoff between eastern and western blocs. As confrontation soars, we are predicted to have the fate of a buffer or bastion between Russia and NATO,” Lukashenko said.
The meeting of the Core Group of the Munich Security Conference is being held in Minsk on October 30 – November 1.
