Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the MIA Russia Today and RT TV channel, expressed her hope that the State Duma would make amendments to the legislation that would really simplify obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of Donbass and Russian-speaking compatriots abroad.
“Now, I know, the laws in the Duma are being written. I very much hope, <...> that they will rewrite them, and it will not turn out that the papers should be folded not on the right hand, but on the left. That they will be rewritten so that this hell will stop, ”said Simonyan in the program“ The Right to Know ”on the TVC channel.
She explained that for several years engaged in this problem.
“I came across people, Ukrainians in the first place, with refugees from the Donbass, and tried to help one very large family, and it became obvious to me how humiliating, wrong, how we act in relation to these people,” said Simonyan.
According to her, for four years, it was possible to achieve for this family only obtaining a residence permit. The law is written in such a way that people cannot legally live in Russia, the chief editor of the MIA “Russia Today” and RT stressed.
She noted that the demographic crisis in Russia can be overcome and the economy can be given working hands at the expense of Russian-speaking compatriots who want to obtain Russian citizenship, live here and pay taxes.
“We already have a million refugees from the Donbass and so, who live here, work somewhere, have rented accommodation. The only thing they need is for us to give them the opportunity to legalize, ”said Simonyan.
Earlier it became known that the committees of the State Duma for CIS affairs and the development of civil society on behalf of the speaker of the lower house of parliament Vyacheslav Volodin will develop changes in legislation that will simplify the procedure for Ukrainian citizenship of Russia.
