ASTANA, November 6. /TASS/. A commemorative plaque will be installed on a house of Kazakhstan’s famous figure skater Denis Ten, who was stabbed to death this summer, the press service of Almaty’s department of sports announced on Tuesday.
According to the press service, an official ceremony to unveil the commemorative plaque in Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, will be held on Wednesday, November 7.
“The commemorative plaque will be unveiled on November 7 at 11:00 a.m. local time (5:00 GMT) and it will be mounted on a house located on Nazarbayev Avenue, 46, where legendary figure skater Denis Ten was born and lived,” the press service stated.
The Foundation of Denis Ten will be also presented on Wednesday and the ceremony is expected to be attended by world’s famous figure skating Tatiana Tarasova.
“Tatiana Tarasova wants to honor the memory of Denis Ten in his native country since she knew him personally and treated him like her son,” the press service added.
Ten, the bronze medalist of the 2018 Sochi Olympics, died in a hospital in Almaty after he had been assaulted by two unidentified suspects and sustained a knife stab in mid-July.
According to Almaty’s police, he spotted two unknown suspects trying to dismount and steal side-mirrors of his car at about midday on July 19. As a result of the following brawl with the suspects, the 25-year-old figure skater was stabbed and taken to a hospital, where he died three hours later despite enormous efforts of the medical staff to save his life.
Besides winning the Olympic bronze at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia’s Sochi, Denis Ten also grabbed the Figure Skating World Championship’s silver and bronze in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
