YEKATERINBURG, December 7. /TASS/. About 900 research laboratories are planned to be established in Russia by 2024 in accordance with the “Science” National Project, Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Mikhail Kotyukov said at a meeting with students of Ural Federal University.
“In the next six years, we must set up 900 new research laboratories. And we expect that young researchers will head at least half of them and their staff will also consist of young scientists,” Kotyukov said.
According to the minister, another crucial objective is to ramp up the number of researchers in Russia. “Our shared mission is to significantly boost the number of researchers in the country,” he said. “We need 35,000 new researchers working for state organizations and private companies,” the minister stressed.
The “Science” National Project is being developed in compliance with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s May Decree, which says that by 2024, Russia must enter the top five counties conducting R&D in priority areas concerning scientific and technological development. In addition, at least 15 world-class research and education centers are going to be established by the same year. Moreover, at least half of the devices used by the country’s leading research organizations must be replaced with new ones.
