MOSCOW, December 28. /TASS/. Director General of Russia’s Anzhi football club Oleg Flegontov announced his resignation on Friday, according to the club’s press service.
“Anzhi FC expresses its gratitude to Oleg [Flegontov] for his work and wishes him successful career in the future,” the statement reads.
Flegontov assumed the post of the Anzhi FC director general in June this year.
Anzhi FC, the football club from Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, is experiencing financial difficulties. The club’s management turned to the authorities of Dagestan at the beginning of the season asking for financial help, but did not receive the support.
Early this month the club was denied an access to the Anzhi-Arena in the city of Kaspiisk for a training session before their regular match since Anzhi FC had not repaid a debt to the owners of the stadium.
Magomed Adiyev, the head coach of Anzhi FC, told TASS earlier that the club received financial support from the Russian Premier League (RPL) and began partially repaying wage arrears to its players.
Anzhi is currently ranked 15th out of 16 clubs in the Russian championship, packing 15 points after 17 fixtures.
