On August 24, Secretary Michael R. Pompeo spoke with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea to discuss next steps on DPRK engagement. Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Kang reaffirmed the United States and the Republic of Korea remain committed to the final, fully verified denuclearization of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), as Chairman Kim Jong Un committed to at the Singapore Summit. The two pledged to maintain close coordination and agreed that pressure must continue until the DPRK denuclearizes.
