NOVOSIBIRSK, December 3. /TASS/. Famous film actor Gerard Depardieu, who came to Novosibirsk to work on cultural and business projects there, has obtained registration in the Leninsky district. Depardieu will not settle in Siberia, but plans to regularly visit it, Depardieu’s spokeswoman and his business partner Yulia Mosman told TASS on Monday.
In February 2013, after receiving Russian citizenship Gerard Depardieu received registration in Saransk, Mordovia Region. The actor left France in 2012 due to the government’s decision to sharply increase the tax for wealthy citizens by 75%.
“Gerard did obtain Novosibirsk registration in the Leninsky city district,” Mosman reported. “Gerard is interested in cooperating with Siberian and Far Eastern regional producers and also plans to regularly visit Siberia and [wants to] see other cities,” she added.
Mosman explained that the change of the actor’s registration is linked to the development of joint cultural and business projects with the region. In particular, Depardieu plans to make a cycle of documentaries about Russia devoted to different regions and cities of the country. Depardieu also plans to launch business linked to food products.
Depardieu’s representative added that the actor will spend four days in the Siberian city. During this time he will visit the main place of interest in Novosibirsk and meet with the governor. The Novosibirsk Regional Culture Ministry Spokeswoman Anna Lobanova told TASS that Depardieu visited Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater on Monday, where he met with representatives for the regional Culture Ministry.
The Leninsky district of Novosibirsk is the third largest and the most populated of the 10 city districts. It is located on the left bank of the Ob River, with a population of about 300,000.
